About Us

We are Kris and Amy Serven, mother and daughter living in California and Washington, respectively, and are here to document our journeys as literacy teachers. We have toyed with the idea of publishing a site, recording a podcast, or building a small business for a while, and at the end of 2023 we decided to take the small leap. We hope to share resources, help teachers feel connected and understood, shed light on some important issues and provide some humor along the way.

Kris has taught elementary for 31 years including intermediate, Title 1, and most recently, primary. The second half of her career has been in Kinder and 1st grade, where her passion for foundational reading and math skills have blossomed. She earned her degrees from Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Long Beach, and Walden University. Amy had a bit more of a curvy road to her current position. She began as a high school English teacher, transitioned to middle school English, then elementary reading intervention, and now back up to middle school reading support. She earned her degrees from Chapman University, Concordia University Irvine, and Vanderbilt University. Between the two of us, we may have every grade in K-12 covered, but we still have loads to learn. We are looking forward to learning, supporting, and meeting new teachers in this next step of our careers! Thanks for visiting our site!
